Mission Statement
The mission of SEEDS is to bring faith-based, mental health services to private Christian schools (K-12) by providing caring and qualified mental health therapists who can assess, diagnose and treat mental health issues. We offer a variety of therapeutic mental health services with the goal that every child could have access to this crucial support.
Background Statement
SEEDS is a nonprofit organization which started in 2021, when a clear and urgent need was seen to combat the growing mental health pandemic magnified by Covid-19.
The SEEDS organization is eager to meet the growing need for mental health support among our children today. The rate in which our children are suffering has become much more apparent and significant over recent years. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, youth aged 6-17 experience a mental health disorder each year (2019). Concerns about family health, unexpected loss of loved ones, increased rates of domestic violence, economic worries for families, and shifts or breaks in preexisting mental health care are only a few of the mental health challenges amplified by the pandemic. The CDC federal health surveillance program in March 2020 through October 2020 stated that mental health related hospital emergency department visits rose 24% for children ages 5-11 and 31% among adolescents ages 12-17, when compared to the same period in 2019. These numbers, of course, only reflect the cases that have been reported and do not identify the many more cases that are unreported.
The SEEDS program objective is to reduce these numbers through early diagnosis and appropriate services. Access to on-site mental health therapists who can offer services, including screening, referrals, and treatment, translates to positive mental health outcomes such as emotional well-being and resilience.
