Mission Statement

To inspire and guide our youth for success in high education.

Background Statement

Founded in 1997, Scholars' Hope Foundation, formerly El Viento, has evolved into a successful college access program.

The lives of youth in low-income communities are transformed through a long-term commitment culminating in 100% of our students reaching higher education.

The academic journey of students and their families begins in the 5th grade and is guided through high school and college.

Our commitment to our mission is built around the belief that all students regardless of their background can succeed if given the time and support. We foster the confidence and skills necessary for success in college and the workplace.

Our students become leaders within their own families, mentoring their siblings, inspiring their neighbors, and guiding their parents.



Impact Statement

1.      100 % of our high school seniors graduated and enrolled in college.

2.      1:1 Advising with students grades 5-12 to address academic management issues as well as social-emotional coaching. 

3.       Average High School GPA at an all-time high of 3.81. 

4.       90% of 2018 graduates CSU/UC eligible.

Programs

Founded in 1997, Scholars' Hope Foundation, formerly El Viento, has evolved into a successful college access program.  

We transform the lives of youth in low-income communities through a long-term commitment culminating in 100% of our students reaching higher education.We commit to our students and their families in the 5th grade and help guide their academic journey through high school and college.

Our commitment to our mission is built around the belief that all students regardless of their background can succeed if given the time and support. We foster the confidence and skills necessary for success in college and the workplace.Our students become leaders within their own families, mentoring their siblings, inspiring their neighbors, and guiding their parents.Our program is structured to prepare students to become college ready by teaching them how to be responsible scholars. Students in 5th-8th grades, work in cohorts with college interns, strengthening their knowledge in social emotional literacy, technology, vocabulary and mathematics. The goal is to fully prepare our scholars for their high school experience.
In high school, our scholars become college and career ready. Through a comprehensive academic advising program, students create an individualized college plan. They are guided through A-G Requirements, SAT/ACT prep, and financial aid. Our scholars graduate confident and informed.

Scholars' Hope Foundation ensures that students in our program graduate high school ready to make informed decisions about their future. Program activities include:

· SAT/ACT Preparation

· Monthly individual advising

· Career exploration

· College application support

· Assistance with personal insight questions for UC's

· Support with FAFSA and CA Dream Act Application

· Financial aid planning

Program Success Monitored By  Scholars' Hope program success is monitored by a yearly program evaluation.
Examples of Program Success  The Class of 2017 made history by being the first class to be 100% UNIVERSITY BOUND.

Erika Enz Director of Operations Erika Enz obtained her Associates degree at Coastline Community College and her Bachelor's Degree, in Career and Technical Studies, from California State University, San Bernardino. Erika has over 25 years experience working with youth in both the recreational and educational arenas. Before accepting her current position with Scholars Hope as Director of Operations, she held the position of Program Director for High School and College. She has been working with the foundation in multiple capacities for 10 years.
