Mission StatementMORE »

We help by reducing psychological and financial stress to our Veterans as they transition into civilian life and Active Duty/Reservists as they are returning from deployment, by providing basic home furnishings and necessities for free, resulting in hope and dignity.

We will also unite them with a rescued animal so it can be trained and become a service animal through our community partners for free, giving them a sense of purpose and emotional support

At Patriots and Paws we fill a very specific need for many of our Veterans/Active Military and Reservists. Our Veterans have programs that can get them housing in the form of VA loans but don't have it in their budget to fill their home with basic items such as dishes, sheets, beds, a couch, end table, etc.

That is where we come in - we provide items to help make their home complete. We strive to fill the gap in their lives.

We provide returning Active Military and their families with information and resources they can use to become successful in returning home and re-starting their lives back in the civilian world.

Background Statement

In August 2011, Patriots and Paws was born out of the love for our Veterans and the needs they have. After hearing the need for basic home furnishings, Patriots and Paws stepped up to serve the Military community.  At the beginning, it took a little while to locate those in need but once the  word got out, the work never stopped. The community is stepping up in helping out.  We feel it is important that the our donors see how important their donations are and where the items go, so we have made several video clips of those we have helped. These videos are available online at our youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIiShrCYE7eUvYawZcOWeCQ

Impact Statement

Since our founding in 2011, Patriots and Paws has helped over 4,200 Veterans, Active Duty, and Reservists through over 60,000 volunteers hours to distribute over $3.2 million dollars in household goods.

In 2018, we served 1,012 clients, were inspired by 14,421 volunteer hours, and completed 950 donation pick ups.

In 2018, we moved into a much larger location giving us 7,700 sq. feet  warehouse and almost 20,000 yard allowing us to do more for Veterans/Active Military/Reservists.  Having a truck donated allows us to increase our ability to pick up donated items.  Allowing us better logistics in place to carry out our mission.

Needs Statement

Our first most pressing need is general financing.  We have basic operating expenses that include but are not limited to; vehicle insurance, business insurance, fuel, phones, advertising, marketing needs, payroll and workers compensation insurance and others.  In 2018 we brought on 1.5 employees.

Our second need would be volunteers.  We need help sorting out items as they come in, some of the items need slight repair or cleaning.  We need help with the donation pick ups.  We also need help with our other day to day operations.

Our third need would be to get the word out to the public, about what our needs are in terms of donating home furnishings to us.  Also getting the word out to our Veterans, active Military and Reservist to let them know we are out there.

CEO Statement

Only 8% of our country has served in the Armed Forces. When you see that number, you notice how small that really is.  You don't have to agree to what we do or why we do it, but we strive to respect and honor those who made a decision to put their life on the line for our country when the need arose.  They follow their/our Commander In Chief and do what they are told and  made the choice to defend our country.  Everyday as we enjoy our freedom, we need to remember it is because of the only 8% who fought for that right.

Programs

Provisions for Patriots

Patriots and Paws program Provisions for Patriots is helping our Veterans/Active Military/Reservists that may have been homeless or have fallen on hard times and in need regain their dignity as they are becoming part of the community they live in.

We provide basic home furnishing to them for FREE  and some of them have recently just received HUD/VASH vouchers but they receive nothing for their home. Through the donations of the community we are able to give our Veterans/active Military and their families basic home furnishings like a bed, living room set, and dining room set.

In order to qualify for Patriots and Paws you just need to be currently serving in the US Military or have served, that is it. No other requirements.

Many of our Veterans are in need of a companion who will be non judging and love them unconditional and these is where the animals come in. Some of them also need a purpose and have an animal to care for give them a purpose.

Budget  2,000,000
Category  Human Services, General/Other Household Goods Provision
Population Served Other Named Groups Families Homeless
Program Short-Term Success  Our short term success would be serving another 1,000 Veterans, Active Duty and Reservists by the end of the year.
Program Long-Term Success  In the long term our success would be that all Veterans/active Military would have furnishings for their homes.  We are changing the lives daily by providing basic home furnishings for our Veterans/active Military and their families.  Those that we have helped are no longer sleeping on the floor they are sleeping in beds, they now have tables to sit at and enjoy a meal.  When guests come over they can now offer them a place to sit.  Just the basics of a home. Dishes to eat out of, pots and pans to cook in.
Program Success Monitored By  How do we know if Patriots and Paws is working?  Well, we wouldn't have a waiting list and our Veterans and active Military would be able to come in without an appointment pick out what they want and drive away with it the same day.  That would be success!!!
Examples of Program Success
You can visit our website, www.patriotsandpaws.org, our Facebook page, or even our "channel" on Youtube.com and watch some of our commercials from those we have helped and see it in their own words our success.

CEO Comments

There are many hurdles we are having to face to help our Veterans.  Having the freedom of time limits will also help.  We are a grassroots charity, but we are getting it down.  When starting Patriot and Paws we knew there was a need, we just didn't know how big it was and how quickly it would grow.  Our Veterans and active Military deserve better.
