Overview

Mission Statement

Beyond the basic act of eating, dental health is vital to a person’s overall health and appearance. Knowing that there are people who cannot afford to see a dentist, even when suffering from toothaches, loose teeth, or toothlessness, weighs heavily on us here at SmileOnU. Our mission is to rebuild the smiles of those in need, so that the rebuilding of their lives is that much easier.

Background Statement

SmileOnU works with different community organizations such as foster homes, women and children shelter and churches in hope to provide smiles to those in great need. SmileOnU makes the connection between those under-served and the SmileOnU Dentist in the appropriate area of expertise.

Our clients are those individuals whose dental health has suffered due to hardships and adversities. Despite being hindered by poor oral health, our clients are actively seeking to better their lives through education, employment, or other avenues. SmileOnU assists these individuals with free, often extensive, dental care, providing them with a new smile to go with their new lives.

Impact Statement

In four years, SmileOnU has achieved more than 40 clinical transformations through reconstructive dental surgery out of four times that number of applications, focusing specifically on hard-to-obtain reconstructive and implant surgeries. In addition, SmileOnU has completed two International Outreach Programs providing 1,240 patience with cleanings, fillings and tooth extractions.

Needs Statement

SmileOnU currently receives $183,000 in-kind donations from volunteer dentists and suppliers. SmileOnU needs infrastructure funding for administration and technology to greatly expand our services.

CEO Statement

I take great pride in knowing our services are propelling our patients to build a successful future for themselves. It has been a pleasure to see their happiness when they know they can smile big at a job interview without feeling ashamed. The joy continues when I see our dentists expression before and after they service a patient. This seems to be infectious; more and more dentists ask to come onboard our missions. This has shown me that the dental community is eager to utilize their skills to help those who cannot afford dental service. To be able to provide a platform for these opportunities has only driven me to further my mission.

CEO Comments

Currently SmileOnU is receiving more requests for help and offers from volunteers than it can respond to. To accommodate the challenge of growth without changing the successful dynamic of the existing program, a phased growth plan is essential. Careful planning will help to increase capacity while the organization evolves from its current 100% volunteer model to a more sustainable organizational structure with paid staff and revenue development.

CEO Comments

Because the success of the SmileOnU outreach now relies primarily on the energy of its founder, growing its mission clearly requires growing the organization.

Critical to the success of an expanded capacity is a plan that matches key functional areas of the current effort with dedicated individuals who bring critical skills to manage the complex operations required. To do this, SmileOnU has defined several functional areas as a basis for organizational growth. 1)  Case Management 2) Marketing 3) Fundraising 4) Development
