Overview

Mission Statement

PTFORALL is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity dedicated to helping low income individuals with financial difficulties get the physical therapy services and supplies they need. PTFORALL helps individuals by funding part or all of their physical therapy visits and helps clinics providing services to those with economic struggles by providing physical therapy equipment, healthcare related supplies and assistive devices (wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, braces, etc.) free of charge.

Background Statement

Organization History:

After years in physical therapy due to a back injury and back surgeries, Barbara Gray wondered how others who couldn't afford therapy or rehabilitation equipment coped with the constant pain, discomfort and immobility. How would they ever return to work and be able to live healthy lives again? She had seen for herself the powerful changes that physical rehabilitation can make in a person’s physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. And so Ms. Gray wanted to help individuals with limited financial resources to receive the same benefits from physical therapy that she experienced.

Subsequently, Physical Therapy For All was started in November of 2012 by Barbara Gray (Chief Finance Officer), John Gray (President) and Dan Jones (Director). The organization’s vision is: “All persons, regardless of their economic status, receive medically necessary physical therapy services and equipment.”

As we have grown we added a vice president (Yousef Ghandour), two additional Directors (Frank Leers and Robert Chacon) an associate and a procurement volunteer. We received an E.A.R.T.H (Environmental Action and Restoration That Helps) award that acknowledged our efforts on behalf of the environment (equipment recycling) and improving quality of life; we received a $1,000 grant from the Pollination Project Foundation to fund the application process to become a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity, which we achieved in February of 2014; and to date we have donated over 100 walkers and a total of over 300 pieces of rehabilitation equipment and supplies including: wheelchairs, crutches, walking boots, exercise bikes, treadmills, treatment tables, diapers, wound care supplies, diabetic testing kits and hospital beds.

Our goal is to help those who cannot afford physical therapy to get the treatment they need and, through recycling existing medical devices and assistive equipment, the tools they need to help themselves.

Impact Statement

Accomplishments:
  1. We are a Certifying Organization for the Presidents Volunteer Service Award, which has helped us recruit volunteers (www.presidentialserviceawards.gov).

  2. We received an E.A.R.T.H (Environmental Action and Restoration That Helps) award that acknowledged our efforts on behalf of the environment (equipment recycling) and improving quality of life. This is the 2014 Sun Catcher Award for “Shining a little light to create a clean, healthy and prosperous environment.”

  3. We presented a $1500 grant to the nonprofit Family Health Centers of San Diego to be used exclusively to sponsor individuals with a medical need for physical therapy services but who do not have the financial resources to afford it.

  4. We helped several “start-up” free medical clinics who serve the poor by providing much needed rehabilitation equipment and medical supplies.

  5. We have donated over 500 walkers and a total of over 2800 pieces of rehabilitation equipment and supplies including: wheelchairs, crutches, walking boots, exercise bikes, treadmills, treatment tables, diapers, wound care supplies.

Needs Statement

1. We need new or used medical equipment:

PTFORALL helps clinics providing services to those with economic struggles by donating physical therapy equipment, healthcare-related supplies, and assistive devices (wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, braces, etc.) free of charge. We also work with several nonprofit organizations and free medical clinics in need of our assistive devices.

2.  We need funds for our Physical Therapy Services Program:

PTFORALL is proud to offer the PT Services Grant to help low-income individuals with financial difficulties receive medically necessary physical therapy services.
  1. We need cash donations (tax deductible) so that we can continue to offer our PT Services Grant program to as many people as possible who are medically under-served.

CEO Statement

Programs

PHYSICAL THERAPY SERVICES PROGRAM

Individuals are chosen to receive free physical therapy services based on their medical diagnosis/physical impairments, their needs and goals for completing physical therapy and the level of their financial burden. All of the individuals who receive free physical therapy services will be of a low socioeconomic level.

PTFORALL has partnered with physical therapy clinics that are willing to discount their fees. PTFORALL will then pay the clients physical therapy bill directly to the physical therapy clinic.

Potential clients will be vetted by applying for our PT Services Grant (available on our website).

We will measure the progress and success of our program by analyzing the discharge reports from our client’s physical therapist as well as interviewing the clients directly after they have completed their prescribed physical therapy sessions.

Budget  $4,800.00
Category  Health Care, General/Other Physical Therapy
Population Served US General/Unspecified Other Health/Disability
Program Short-Term Success  Mobility and function will improve by the end of sessions recommended.
Program Long-Term Success  Specifically, we will follow these steps in order to measure the progress and success of our program:

1. We will document how many disabled or injured individuals we helped to return to a productive and healthy lifestyle.

2. We will follow each client to ensure that they were able to complete their prescribed physical therapy sessions.

3. We will review the evaluation and discharge reports from the physical therapist to ensure that progress was made and goals were met.

4. We will contact the clients directly after their discharge from physical therapy to investigate if their goals and needs were met.
