Mission Statement

Guidelines' mission is to REACH people who need relationship with God, TEACH them His Word, and TOUCH them by meeting their spiritual and physical needs .

Background Statement

Dr. Harold Sala (speaker, author and bible teacher) founded Guidelines in 1963. Pioneering the five-minute commentary in Christian radio, Dr. Sala’s daily “Guidelines-A Five Minute Commentary on Living” is currently broadcast on more than 1000 stations around the world in a variety of languages. Programs are also available on our website and by email.

The Guidelines Team encourages men and women all over the world to live out the life of Christ. Sala, who holds a Ph.D. in biblical text, has authored over 60 books published in 19 languages. He and his team frequently speak on a wide variety of practical topics at conferences, seminars, and churches worldwide.

Additionally, Guidelines participates with its missionaries in mobile medical and vision clinics, Christian medical education, prison ministry, outreach to displaced people groups and support of children’s homes. Lives are touched by ministering to the lonely, sick, hurting and poor in places like the Philippines, Ukraine, Myanmar and Kenya.

  •  Established 7 new broadcast relationships including a new 24/7 worldwide internet portal/app hosting the Guidelines Commentary and Encouraging Words in multiple languages.
  • Entered into new broadcast partnerships:  FEBC Hong Kong, reaching Mainland China via internet, OK Radio, Kyrgyzstan and Media 7 Albania.
  • Expanded languages carried online by the Bible Broadcast Network ( - Chinese, Spanish and Russian.
  • Distributed the Guidelines Family Study Video Series on flash drives in Chinese (Mainland China) and Spanish (Cuba).
  • Distributed 500 radios in Kosovo.
  • Dr. Sala completed his latest book, The Living Book that Changes Lives.
  • Guidelines' ministry reach is now 280 million people. 
Top Accomplishments in 2015:
  • $41,700 raised for a  Legacy Radio Station planted in a Muslim-majority country of the Balkans
  • $10,000 in war relief raised and sent to Ukraine
  • Constructed permanent home for Precious Kids Center in Kitale, Kenya
  • Provided a new vehicle for Sister Freda in Kitale, Kenya
  • Produced Guidelines' Family Study Video Series in English, Tagalog and Mandarin on flash drives.  Funded 300 flash drives in Hong Kong for distribution to couples in Mainland China.

Guidelines establishes Community Radio Stations to equip evangelical partners working in the community to provide bible-based, people oriented programming in unserved areas.

Upcoming Projects
Tacloban, Leyte, Philippines
Tacloban was the site of Hurricane Haiyan (known as Hurricane Yolanda in the Philippines) in 2013. Guidelines' partner, FEBC was the first on the ground providing First Respoinse emergency radio to the community. Now the government has indicated they will approve a license for teh community's first Christian radio station, hoped for in 2016. Guidelines will plant the station to minister to thousands whose lives are still shattered by loss.
Program Long-Term Success  Guidelines International Ministries exists to proclaim the Good News of the Gospel in such a manner that men and women come to faith in Jesus Christ and believers are discipled and strengthened.
Program Success Monitored By  Our project partners whom we have long-term relationships with,  provide quarterly reports.  Additionally, our partners maintain all assets in their name.
Examples of Program Success  Our first station, Radio DZRK, was dedicated in February 2014 in the municipality of Quezon on the Island of Palowan, Philippines.  Guidelines and FEBC (Far East Broadcasting Company) joined with the Luke Society, an evangelical medical outreach to support the community.  Now, two years later, all operating costs are being covered by the community.

CEO Experience

Bonnie assumed leadership of the Guidelines Team in January 2016, overseeing operations after having served as the ministry's CEO for two years.  The "original" Team member,  (as Harold & Darlene's eldest child), Bonnie and her team are committed to the original Guidelines' mission of reaching, teaching and touching the world with the message of the Gospel and to a ministry built upon prayer.  Bonnie has expanded international broadcasts, developed Guidelines' online presence, our THRIVE ministry to women and spearheads the Community Radio Station Project.  The Community Radio Stations equip community partners to provide Bible-based, people-oriented programming in unserved areas.

Prior to her work with Guidelines, Bonnie used her broadcast journalism and business degrees in financial tech marketing. She has been active in missions leadership at the church level and is a graduate of the Perspectives on the World Christian Movement from the U.S. Center for World Mission, now Frontier Ventures. She also home schooled her two adult sons.

Luisa Ampil Director of Media and Philippines Ministry Born and raised in the Philippines, Luisa joined Guidelines 18 years ago, after a successful career in luxury hotel management. As Dr. Sala's administrative assistant, Luisa proved to be a multi-tasking marvel! Today Luisa coordinates Guidelines' ministry in the Philippines and manages all broadcast media. As Guidelines programs are broadcast in an increasing number of languages, Luisa's responsibility for coordinating all radio production and translation has grown! She also translates, voices and produces Darlene Sala's Encouraging Words commentary in Taglish. Luisa is the author of two books: What Women Can Do When Life Falls Apart and When a Man Loves a Woman, (released by OMF). Luisa has raised twin daughters.
Christi Haukebo Director of Ministry Advancement Christi came to Guidelines from a background of 12 years in donor relations with the ministry of Joni & Friends as well as years as an administrator in Christian education. As an enthusiastic people person, Christi excels at ministry relations, praying with listeners over the phone and helping donors match their Kingdom passion with Guidelines' ministries. Christi also coordinates marketing communications and care for Guidelines' missionaries throughout the world. Christi is a worship leader in her local church, is married to Bjarne Haukebo (yep...Norweigian). The Haukebos have an adult son in college and high school aged daughter.

Tracy Van Denburg VP Finance Tracy Van Denberg joined Guidelines with a background in both corporate and non-profit finance. She was with the Disney Company for 10 years and has served as Treasurer of her home church, Trabuco Presbyterian Church, for 5 years. Tracy holds a Master of Business Administration from Chapman University. Tracy is vigilant in ensuring that Guidelines' 52 year commitment to the highest standard of financial integrity is upheld. In addition to running all things financial at Guidelines, Tracy has run countless marathons and keeps up with her 3 high school and college aged kids and husband, Eric.
