Overview

Mission Statement

Off the Streets – Huntington Beach is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit charity (Tax ID 46-4900223) that helps eligible homeless individuals and families in Orange County and Riverside County California get into permanent housing. Since our startup in June 2014 we have helped over 500 individuals escape homelessness by getting them into permanent housing.

Background Statement

Off The Streets Huntington Beach is one of four chapters established since 2009, using a Housing First approach to identify, consult, and assist in getting homeless people into permanent housing. Since June 2014, Off The Streets - Huntington Beach has helped over 200 individuals escape homelessness by transitioning them into permanent housing. 50% of our clients have been single moms with kids and another 29% are couples with kids. 7% of our clients have been single women, 8% single men, and 6% are couples without kids. Our demographics reflect that 60% of our client base has been female, but we believe that figure understates the impact we are having in women’s lives. Many of the males we are serving are the children of mothers being helped. These mothers, bonded to their children, are best and most appropriately served by helping out the children. Moreover, the male/female couples represented among those we serve are more likely to be able to remain housed by virtue of being a couple, with the additional resources and effort that comes from having two adults working together. It has been well-established over many years that an adult couple has a greater chances of avoiding homelessness and gaining and maintaining a residence than does a single person. In fact, only 8% of those we serve are single men. All other categories of those served include women and their intimate partners or children for whom the women are responsible.

We offer compassionate assistance with a realization that a lasting solution to homelessness involves getting clients to show personal responsibility and own the solution.

House 1000 by 2020

With our track record of over 500 homeless housed since our start up in 2014, we are launching an ambitious campaign to house a total of 1000 homeless by the year 2020. Over the past year we have built up an incredible team of volunteers and streamlined and modernized our operations making us fully capable of housing this many individuals and families over the next 4 years.

Nevertheless, this will be a stretch goal for us financially, but with your help and support we can make this happen. We invite you to join us in this journey of changing one life and one family at a time with a compassionate hand up and not just a hand out.

Not only do we help people get into a home of their own but more importantly we provide them with a financial game plan that allows them to stay housed for the long term. Over 95% of the people we help stay housed after we place them. In addition, we furnish their new rentals with your generous donations of gently used furniture and household goods so they can move into a real home.
