Mission StatementMORE »

The Forever with Us Foundation aids families who have recently lost a child to cancer, by providing the funds for an honorable funeral, until no more children are taken from this disease.

The Forever with Us Foundation was created to care for the families who have recently lost a child to cancer, and do not have the funds to provide their child with an honorable funeral. This Foundation will contribute to the funeral costs in order to take away some of the stress the families feel during this time. Families with a child battling cancer already have a large financial burden with medical bills, and in some cases parents lose their job as a result of spending time with their sick children. If their child tragically passes away, parents not only suffer from the loss of a child but are forced to cover funeral expenses. I have seen too many posts of parents who are desperately trying to raise money for their own child's funeral. This is what we aim to eliminate. I know from personal experience that when my brother, Kyle, unexpectedly passed away in 2015, my parents were very grateful when my grandparents stepped in to help.

A main focus of this organization is to allow parents to give their child the funeral that they believe their child deserves. We want these courageous children to have the best celebration of life possible.

Background Statement

I decided to start Forever With Us after my brother Kyle unexpectedly passed away at the age of 24. When I heard of the cost it took to put on his funeral and burial I was in shock. I thought to myself what a tragedy it would be if a family could not afford to pay for their child's funeral, because for me it was a very important part of saying goodbye to my brother. A funeral is the time you can be gathered around and witness all of the people who your loved one has impacted, and can hear stories you may have never heard before.
Little did I know the cost of a funeral was a very big issue for many of the families I surround myself with weekly. I am a volunteer on the cancer floor at Miller Children's Hospital, and after speaking with the social worker, chaplain and other hospital staff, I learned there is a big need for help in this area. From then on I told myself I would try everything I could to make a difference for these families. So many families with a child battling cancer have to quit their jobs to help take care of their sick children. One round of chemotherapy can cost up to $30,000, with many insurance companies not covering the full costs, and every child with cancer needs at least three rounds. These families need our support more than ever if their child passes away, and many times that is when the support stops. We need to do something about this. Every donation made to Forever With Us goes straight to funding a funeral for a child, and the parents are eternally grateful.

Impact Statement

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
We are now serving families of cancer patients from Miller Children's Hospital that have passed away and are not able to afford a funeral for their child.
We have held many successful fundraising events, including Field Day with the University of San Diego where $8,000 was raised in total.
Our instagram is based around raising childhood cancer awareness by sharing stories of childhood cancer patients who have passed away, in order to honor the little lives tragically taken, and to raise awareness for the disease. (@foreverwithusfdn)

 GOALS:
We hope to expand to CHOC Children's by the end of 2018, and Children's Hospital LA shorty thereafter. If we can accomplish this we will be able to give hundreds of families who have just lost a child, a feeling of support and love from the community.
We also are hoping to host a big annual event near the end of 2018.

Needs Statement

1. Funding for childhood cancer warrior's funerals. All donations made to Forever With Us go straight to helping families afford a beautiful funeral for their child.

2. Awareness. We would love to have more opportunities to get our story out there and raise awareness for our cause. We also are looking for more people on our board who are passionate for and have a desire to tell our story.

CEO Statement

Hello, my name is Kelsey Testman and I started the Forever With Us Foundation after my brother Kyle unexpectedly passed away in 2015 at the age of 24. Funerals are very expensive and many families with a child battling cancer have had their funds wiped out from medical expenses. From volunteering in the cancer department at Miller Children's Hospital I have seen first hand the tragedy a family goes through from losing their child, and then not being able to afford a funeral is something unimaginable to most. These families want the best for their children and I want to be able to give that to them. With your help we could never have a family need to worry about the cost of a funeral again! This truly does mean the world to the families and the thank you's are never ending. We are also able to share many of the children's stories that we help, which allow our amazing donors to see the huge impact they are making. Thank you so much for the support!
