Mission StatementMORE »

There is no instrument more capable of nuanced communication than the human voice. Its versatility can unite mankind and allows us to make unique connections with one another. Some scientists, linguists, and archaeologists even believe that the concept of language evolved from the singing, or melodic sounds of our distant ancestors. No matter the era or mother tongue, music moves people and provides a way to experience humanity’s greatest joys and trials. Our mission is to create and share intimate musical experiences that honor the operatic repertoire, while keeping the stories meaningful for a modern audience. We champion local performers and artists, fostering their unique abilities and showcasing their talents in the community.

Background Statement

Founded in 2017 by Orange County resident and operatic soprano Diana Farrell, Lyric Opera of Orange County is dedicated to bringing opera back to a community where it was absent for a more than a decade. Lyric Opera OC focuses on producing intimate musical experiences that honor the operatic repertoire in a way meaningful to the modern audience. We provide expanded opportunities for emerging operatic professionals to hone their skills, gain performance experience and grow their careers.

Impact Statement

In the past year, Lyric Opera of Orange County has received 501.c.3 status, produced 2 fully staged productions in our community, performed for over 900 people, and created local professional opportunities for over 40 musicians and artists. In the coming year we hope to double our audience reach, create an education program and more opportunities for youth involvement, begin working with full orchestra for productions, and hire a part-time support staff.

Needs Statement

As we grow we seek funds for administrative staff and other non-program related expenses; centralized office/rehearsal location; in-kind legal and accounting services; funds for enhancing productions and programming with full orchestra (roughly $25,000 per production); printing costs for program, marketing, and fundraising materials; storage facilities for our growing stock of costumes, sets, and props.
